GOODHUE WIND TRUTH

Important tasks needed by individual or community members!
Many Goodhue County Citizens are afraid to speak out because they have a friend(s) or family member(s) who have invested or signed a contract with Geronimo or Goodhue Wind LCC, AWA Goodhue Wind LLC.  We have all felt intimidated by those for and those who oppose this project.   Our intent is not to cause intimidation, our intent is to educate the community on facts pertaining to the misperceptions of the Wind industry.

The Wind Developers don't live here and never will.  They will do or say whatever they need to in order to get the project through.  They will make their money from the project at our expense and leave us with a damaged community.

Don't fool yourself and think this is a passing phase and the community will be fine when the Wind Companies leave, it will not.  We will forever be changed.

This project will set the standard for wind development throughout the County and perhaps throughout the State.  It does not matter that you do not live in the project area. It is time to speak out against this now.

Wind energy carries its own set of pollution which is detrimental to humans and animals.  Health effects caused by low-frequency noise is one side effect, but not the worst.  EMF (Electromagnetic Field) and dirty voltage are far worse!

It's time to be heard!  It is YOUR RIGHT to protect your property, your community and your life!  You have the freedom and right to state your concerns and opinions.

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." - Albert Einstein, 1918

A CALL TO ACTION:

The Planning Advisory Commission leadership needs to move the Sub-Committee Ordinance forward for a vote, and support it as written!  The County Commissioners need to support this stronger ordinance to protect the people of Goodhue County.

PAC members, County Commissioner Chairman, and Goodhue County Commissioners need to be contacted.
GOODHUE COUNTY IS OPENING THE DOOR TO INDUSTRIAL WIND THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COUNTY.

Please call or write county leadership AND send editorials to the papers, to comment in your own words.  Mention the main changes that offer protections that you support. Ask for support of the Sub-committee ordinance as it stands, without weakening it!!!

Short letters and phone calls are O.K.!  Write and speak in your own words and from the heart. What is important is many voices. See the Representative Contact page for County Commissioner and Planning and Zoning members.   Must copy all members on your letters so all will receive it.

UPDATE to County Commissioner's Sub Committee Meeting:

Committee members are taking Wind Developer's advisement on turbine setbacks!  1000 ft for participants, 1500 ft for non-participants!  The proposed setback is already what the developers are offering and not in our best interest.   Are our commissioner's and planning committee really looking out for the health and welfare of the people of the community?  Please contact the Goodhue County Commissioners and Planning and Zoning members NOW!  Contact information can be found under the Representatives Contact tab.

This was proposed at the last sub committee meeting June 8th, 2010.

ACTION ITEM

NEED CALLS TO: Scott Arneson, County Administrator

Please call and ask Mr. Arneson to add the county "C-bed Resolution of support" as a discussion item at the next county board meeting agenda (doubtful this would be May 18; likely to be the June meeting).

We need to respectfully ask the county board to reopen their discussion of the c-bed resolution of support that the county board gave to Goodhue Wind and revoke it.  The resolution of support that was granted is completely different from the project as it currently exists.  The board must recall the resolution as it stands.

Call or write county commissioners asking for the c-bed resolution to be revisited at a board meeting and then revoked.  Thank you.

County Leaders & State Representatives MUST be contacted Immediately!
DECISIONS ON THE COUNTY WIND ORDINANCE ARE BEING MADE NOW!

Please contact your County and State leaders to let them know that they need to address the very real and serious health and safety concerns, as well as property value concerns, surrounding proper setbacks of wind turbines.  The State Legislature wrote an unacceptable statute that allows 400’+ tall industrial turbines to be placed within 500 feet of homes and 250 feet of roads.  Wind developers must also satisfy sound regulations which usually put turbines at 750 ft. from homes.

BUT, Manufacturers recommend over 1,000’and the Minnesota Department of Health Report states 0.6 mile or greater reduces problems.  Many other studies state safe distances as one mile, or greater.  The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, which permits these large projects, gives counties the power to implement more stringent regulations.  Goodhue County and Minnesota must protect the health, safety, and rights of ALL citizens.

(**Note: The “MN State Wind Access Buffer” CAN afford you more distance than the 1500’setback distance being offered by AWAGoodhue Wind.  Be aware, especially if you have a bigger land parcel.)

GOODHUE COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD
DECISIONS ON THE COUNTY WIND ORDINANCE ARE BEING MADE NOW!

The Planning Advisory Board (Planning and Zoning) is working RIGHT NOW on the County Wind ordinance.  PLEASE contact them to relate your wishes IMMEDIATELY. PLEASE ask for more protective setbacks (.6 mile or ½ mile from homes) in Goodhue County. The moratorium for more study is being denied at this time. A MORATORIUM IS STILL A SENSIBLE AND VIABLE OPTION FOR THE COUNTY!

Better setbacks from Homes will not “kill the project” as developers say. This is a negatively loaded phrase that wind developers like to repeat.

AN INDUSTRIAL WIND PROJECT MUST FIT THE COMMUNITY. “…noise criteria beyond current state standards used for placement of wind turbines should reflect priorities and attitudes of the community.” --Recommendation of the Minnesota Department of Health, Environmental Health Division,May 22, 2009 (“Public Health Impacts of Wind Turbines”)

HELP PROTECT GOODHUE COUNTY
PLEASE CONTACT PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD MEMBERS IMMEDIATELY!
